The Value of The Learning Space

"This year I was invited to join the Learning Space and it was one of the greatest gift of my teaching career! Learning Space is a group of passionate teachers who share their best teaching practices with others. They have an immeasurable love of learning and believe technology needs be integrated into all areas of the curriculum. Being a Learning Space Trainer gives me the same energy that I feel each time I enter a classroom. Its powerful!"

"Thank you for asking me to reflect what Learning Space means to me. I can look up from my computer now in my 5th grade classroom and begin to answer this question. In the Kennewick School District each teacher is given one computer and one printer. I have those plus fifteen other computers, 5 printers, 2 scanners, 3 televisions, 2 digital cameras, 1 digital video camera, 1 CD burner, a projection device, 3 laptops, an Elmo document camera and software for all the machines, I have gotten these plus more through grants. I found out about all these grants by being a part of the Learning Space list serv. I learned how to apply and write these grants from the Learning Space teachers whom I have collaborated with for the past six years. Most important I know what to do with it because of the valuable training and online support I receive daily. The Learning Space has helped me to give so much to my students and staff here at Eastgate . Eastgate is a low income school with 57% minority. With the technology I have received through grants, my students have been given the opportunity to see what technology as a tool can do for them now and in future.

Five years ago I was a second year teacher wanting to integrate technology into my Kindergarten curriculum, I applied for and received the Learning Space Grant. That grant gave me a lab top computer, software and computer training and most important time to collaborate with teachers all across the state of Washington. I have been able to share my technology successes and failures with teachers throughout the United States. My training has helped me to develop a great web site that my students , teachers and parents use daily.

The Learning Space to me is a positive wonderful group of educators who encourage, share and help anyone who wants to use technology as a tool in their classrooms. The Learning Space belief in me has changed my life and the way I teach. It has made me very proud to be a part of the teaching profession. I'm excited about teaching and learning therefore my students are too!"

"How does a 28-year veteran teacher improve their teaching? Join Learning Space. Learning Space is an exciting group of teachers with a vision that is not restricted by what should be, but is open to what could be. They see it and go afer it. Everyone involved with Learning Space from the list serve to the board are always willing to share ideas, answer questions, or give suggestions. They help you realize that no question is too small or a task too large, that together it can't be solved or created for the students in your classroom."

"I have been involved with Learning Space from the begining as one of the original Cadre members. I have seen the enthusiasm from other teachers as they go thru Learning Space training, training that shows them how to use technology in their teaching day. So often teachers wonder how can I use the tools of technology to help me with instruction..It is the Learning Space, teachers who use technology, teaching others that completes the cycle of how. The Learning Space opens walls and doors, that have been closed, to teachers and students..It is and always has been by teachers and for teachers. We believe in the positive effects that technology can have in helping instructional practice....This has been one of the most positive and beneficial groups that I could ever have hoped to belong to."

"I have been involved with Learning Space since 1995. Learning Space has many features. I have enjoyed using the web site of the week and the many online projects. As a member I have used the chat room for discussions with other members and e-mail for getting answers to questions on everything from fixing problems to the discussion of the WASL test. The most beneficial tool I have found in using Learning space is the e-mail. You have a cadre of specialist (teachers, librarians, technology specialist) there to help you at the drop of an e-mail. Have a problem; just post an e-mail and many others who may have had the same problem or knows a quick solution view your problem. Maybe the problem hasn't happened yet but in reading the answers you can get a basic knowledge of where to start if a problem occurs. Another benefit of the e-mail is the suggested help I can give teachers. Finding those elusive web gems that can save a teacher time, or finding that gold nugget of information in the gravel pit called the internet, is one of the ways I pass the Learning Space on to other teachers. The online lessons, the links to other schools, all the wonderful ideas are there for any teacher to use.

Thank you Learning Space"
